VW Activities
- How To sign up and take part
The signing up and taking part business is getting less trouble as each year
passes. Could it be that you are listening to us and realising that Action
facilitates a blinding weekend IF you get involved with what is going on? Clubs
have been fantastic in the last couple of years, with record numbers taking
part, and the club participation in the Action Olympics this year needs to
be at least as strong as previous years club events, if it is to work to it's
fullest potential.
Bottom line, we think we've laid on a better fun and games weekend than ever
before, with the FREE Poi Circus skills training, the It's A Knockout style
club competitions, the obstacle course, spacehopping, bug pushing etc., but
we need participants. All you need to do is turn up at the Action information
centre to register your club/team, then turn up when it's time to play...
Click the CLUBS link below to find out what we have
planned for you!

AUTOJUMBLE
AREA
No charge for private sellers (just buy your admission ticket).
The autojumble is Free of Charge. All plots are first come, first served. The
sooner you arrive the better plot you will snag.
• You do not need to register.
• You do not need to come to Information.
• You do not need to pass 'Go'.
Just find the next available unoccupied plot, and set out your wares . . .
it couldn't be easier. The only stipulation is that you are not 'trade' and
that you DO NOT leave your vehicle in the way or obscuring other sellers wares.
CARS FOR
SALE AREA
This you DO pay for, but it's just a fiver for all weekend.
Do come to the Information Office, purchase a 'Cars for Sale' voucher, place
it in your windscreen, and park up.
(Cars without a voucher will be moved with a forklift . . . you've been warned!)

EVERYDAY
VEHICLE SHOW 'N' SHINE - Saturday
Morning ASSEMBLY - 2.45pm FOR TROPHY PRESENTATION
This will be the sixth year of the Everyday Vehicle Show and Shine. The number
of entrants has boomed since this competition replaced the Pride and Joy Concours
in 1998.
The number and quality of entrants has increased to the point that we had to
increase the number of trophies to 20, offering 10 for WATER-COOLED vehicles
and 10 for AIR-COOLED. These trophies are not divided into classes, and the
criteria is pretty much the 20 cars the judges would most like to own . . .
Our judges have all built 'trophy traps', but recognise the different considerations
involved in 'daily drivers'. If your vehicle is your everyday transport then
it's not expected to be flawless, so don't be shy.
Entry in this event is a MUST if you are proud of your VW.

CONCOURS
D'ELEGANCE - Sunday
SPONSORED BY VOLKSWORLD MAGAZINE
ALL WATER-COOLED CLASSES SPONSORED BY THE GOLF MAGAZINE
There are some important changes to the Concours and Custom Concours arrangements
at VW Action on Sunday 5th September. The 'Every Day Vehicle' event will run
as previously on Saturday 4th. Many shows over the years have used a variety
of methods, to judge a bewildering number of classes and sub classes. Action
itself has always catered for the 'Daily Driver' as well as the out and out
show car, with almost 50 classes for show cars as well as the 20 EDV trophies
on the Saturday. In our view, one of the effects of this has been a variation
in the standard of trophy winners. A 'good' car in a low entry class may be
awarded a winner or runner-up trophy, whereas an 'extremely good' car in a
highly subscribed class may not. This has been an issue (amongst many issues)
for some time.
Last year we trialled a new system this year which delivered a 'best of all
worlds' solution. The concours display area will be divided into four sections:
Standard Air Cooled
Standard Water Cooled
Modified Air Cooled
Modified Water Cooled
Your car will fit one and only one of these descriptions. (Modification relates
to the original vehicle, therefore an originally air cooled car fitted with
a water cooled engine is a Modified Air Cooled) That is both the area of the
concours arena in which you will display, and the cars against which you will
be judged. Using this format, four or five very similar cars, with hundreds
of hours work, that might have been trimmed to just one trophy winner, could
all be in contention for a top ten placing.
There are specific instructions issued to judges. These instructions/guidelines
are available to anyone who wishes to see them, but basically deal with levelling
the playing field in respect of older or rarer vehicles. (Levelling, not favouring,
just giving due consideration to all factors.) The Judges for each of the four
categories will be selecting ten vehicles. These forty vehicles will be considered
by all judges, firstly to establish a 'Best of Show' for each of the four categories.
From these vehicles, the judges will select a 'Champion of Champions'.
Please be assured that this format has been arrived at over many hours' deliberation,
by judges who's only concern is to see that the most 'worthy' vehicles are
rewarded with a trophy. We aim to have notified the forty cars going forward
to the final judging stage by 2.15pm. As soon as these vehicles are known,
they will be notified by way of a window sticker. We hope this will also help
anyone under time pressure who may wish to leave once the initial judging is
completed.
What really makes these competitions is the number and variety of entries.
We would like to see more, not less vehicles entering the event this year.
You may not win a trophy, but you will have taken part in what we hope is the
best ever VW Action.

No doubt this
format will draw some criticism, as all previous systems have. But please
